Key Stage 2
Year 3 to Year 6

Learning in Key Stage 2 expands with subjects that allow students to learn by experience. There is a consistent focus on sharing ideas, communicating confidently and collaborating in groups. It encompasses a broad range of subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities Global Perspectives, ICT and Languages. These subjects form the foundation needed for Key Stage 3.

Students are encouraged to explore and expand their horizons whilst re-enforcing the core subjects which underlie their foundation of knowledge. Music, Art and Physical Education are also included and MFL (Modern Foreign Language) continues with Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin with a stronger emphasis on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. These culminate in Checkpoint, the diagnostic tool at the end of Key Stage 2, in preparation towards their Secondary School education. A personal learning plan is then devised for every child to prepare them for secondary school in accordance with their strengths and skills.

Key Stage 3 & Key Stage 4
Years 7 to 9 & Years 10 to 11

In the Secondary school, a broad and balanced curriculum provide the basics to develop a range of essential critical thinking skills, knowledge of key concepts and an aptitude for continuous learning, creativity and independent thinking. Central to the aims is a structure based on a solid core of compulsory subjects (English, Mathematics and Science).

At Key Stage 3, their studies will again culminate in another Checkpoint, diagnostic tool which outlines the students’ inherent strengths and fortitudes and thus guides them to make informed choices in elective subjects available at Year 10. The focus here is to guide students to maintain academic breadth whilst beginning to shape the direction of their own educational journey.

Mandarin Classes

Mandarin Classes

Imperial students will be given core training in three languages – English, Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu. They will be required to study these three languages from Primary right up to Secondary. We believe a strong foundation of these languages will provide our students with a competitive edge in the global stage.

With China’s growing economic power, there is now a stronger demand for individuals who are proficient in Mandarin.

Students are required to study Mandarin from Primary to Secondary School. The students are set into different ability groupings within each year group. They may select Mandarin as an elective paper for their IGCSE examination (i.e. Mandarin as a First Language, Second Language or Foreign Language).

Bahasa Melayu Classes

Imperial provides Bahasa Melayu classes based on the language learning ability of our students. The intermediate classes are similar to the Malaysian National Curriculum and the basic classes are intended for students who are learning Bahasa Melayu as a foreign language.

The aim is for students to have the ability to use the language effectively for practical communication. Students will be taking the Cambridge IGCSE Foreign Language Malay examination.
